David Moard is the founder of PowerHouse Energy. Mr. Moard is a leader, strategist, engineer and businessman with extensive domestic and international experience in energy technology development and commercialization from start-ups to “Fortune 500” companies.
Early in his career, he directed the strategic planning and implementation of advanced technology programs including natural gas vehicles, robotic excavation, distributed generation and environmental equipment for the Southern California Gas Company.
Mr. Moard's early involvement with fuel cells includes handling a $10 million budget to establish a commercial venture for the Southern California Gas Company in on-site cogeneration using fuel cells. As the Manager of Fuel Cells for The Gas Research Institute, Mr. Moard managed and directed the use of a $60 million budget for the field testing of 50 fuel cells followed by final product development and commercialization of 200kW fuel cells in the U.S.
In 1993, Mr. Moard founded Hydrogen Burner Technology, Inc., (HBT) where he served as Chairman and CEO. In this capacity, Mr. Moard was responsible for all aspects of equipment, market and business development of co-invented hydrogen equipment. By the end of 2000, Mr. Moard had positioned HBT for an IPO by raising over $30 million through international investment capital and joint ventures.
Mr. Moard graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo with post-graduate work in market and business management. He has written over 50 papers and publications on energy equipment development, the energy market and business strategy. He was former chair of the 150-member California Hydrogen Business Council. From 1997-1999 he served on the National Hydrogen Association Board of Directors and, from 1990-1993 on the Fuel Cell Commercialization Group Board of Directors.
